Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing & Jacket - Disassemble

DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE





1. Remove the lock module assembly. Refer to Electronic Column Lock Module - Disassemble - Off Vehicle (Column Shift).
2. Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle (Column and Floor Shift).
3. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws from the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly. Remove the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly.





4. Remove the electrical BTSI actuator in the following way:
4.1. Put the shift [ever clevis into the neutral position.
4.2. Use a small screwdriver to pry the electrical BTSI actuator away from the steering column jacket assembly and the cable shift cam assembly.





5. Remove the 3 flat head tapping screws from the linear shift assembly. Remove the linear shift assembly from the steering column support assembly.





6. Remove the inner boot seal (4).
7. Remove the steering shaft seal (3) from the adapter and bearing assembly (1).
8. Remove the shaft seal retainer (2) from the adapter and bearing assembly (1).
9. Remove the adapter and bearing assembly (1) from the steering shaft assembly.





10. Remove the steering shaft assembly (1) from the steering column support assembly (2) and the steering column jacket assembly (3).





11. Remove the 4 TOW head screws (1) from the steering column support assembly (2).
12. Discard the 4 TOW head screws (1).
13. Remove the steering column support assembly (2) from the steering column jacket assembly (3).
