Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement
Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:
^ Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module.
^ Make sure the bag opening points away from you.
When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests. When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.
Removal Procedure
1. Disable the SIR system.
2. Remove the passenger knee bolster.
3. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) retainer (2) from the Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel (IP) module harness connector.
4. Disconnect the Inflatable Restraint P module connector (1).
5. Remove the clip that retains the Inflatable Restraint IP module harness to the instrument panel (3).
6. Remove the two bolts (2) that retain the Inflatable Restraint IP module (3) to the instrument panel carrier.
7. Push out from the back side in order to remove the Inflatable Restraint P module from the instrument panel.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the Inflatable Restraint IP module (3).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the two bolts (2) that retain the Inflatable Restraint IP module to the instrument panel carrier.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
3. Install the Inflatable Restraint IP module connector (1).
4. Install the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) retainer (2).
5. Install the clip that retains the Inflatable Restraint module harness to the instrument panel (3).
6. Install the passenger knee bolster.
7. Enable the SIR system.
