This bulletin is being issued to revise the Transfer Case Disassemble and the Transfer Case Assemble procedures in the Transfer Case sub-section of the Unit Repair Manual. Please replace the current information in the Unit Repair Manual with the following information.
The following information has been updated within SI. If you are using a paper version of the Unit Repair Manual, please make a reference to this bulletin on the affected page.
The rear output shaft has a design change for model year 2003. The new design rear output shaft will be the service replacement parts for the original design rear output shaft for prior model years.
The old P/N 12547489 (2) will be replaced with new P/N 88984303 (1). The shoulder for the oil pump can identity the shafts. This is not an enhancement to the performance of the transfer case.
The rear output shaft should only be replaced if found faulty during reconditioning of the transfer case. The replacement rear output shaft will require a different service procedure.
When servicing the rear output shaft with P/N 88984303, the oil pump retaining ring (6) P/N 12547475 and the oil pump wave washer (4) P/N 12473056 will not be used.
