Front Disc Brakes - Squeal on Heavy Application

File In Section: 05 - Brakes

Bulletin No.: 00-05-23-007

Date: December, 2000

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Front Disc Brake Squeal (Install New Front Disc Brake Pads)

Models:
1998-2001 Chevrolet and GMC L-Vans

Condition

Some customers may comment about a squealing type noise coming from the front brakes during moderate to heavy brake applications. This condition appears to be more prevalent at high ambient temperatures.

Cause

The squealing noise may be the result of a "slip/stick" condition between the front brake pads and rotors that could cause a high frequency vibration.

Correction

Replacing the existing front brake pads with new pads contained in service kit P/N 18045905 that have a new lining material may minimize this condition. Refer to the Disc Brakes sub-section in the applicable Service Manual.

Important:
Guidelines provided in Corporate Bulletin Number 23-50-05B must be followed to ensure proper cleaning, lubricating, and assembling of brake and related components.
