Instrument Panel (IP) - Carrier Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to Battery Cable Replacement (Battery Disconnect/Connect) in Starting and Charging.
2. Disable the SIR system.
3. Remove the instrument cluster assembly.
4. Remove the instrument panel lower extension upper trim panel.
5. Remove the left hinge pillar trim panel.
6. Remove the right hinge pillar trim panel.
7. Remove the instrument panel driver knee bolster deflector assembly and the driver knee bolster inner and outer brackets.
8. Remove the instrument panel passenger knee bolster inner and outer brackets.
9. Remove the passenger side SIR Module.
10. Remove the instrument panel upper trim pad.
11. Remove the engine cover.
12. Remove the radio, if equipped.
13. Remove the remote CD player, if equipped.
14. Remove the mounting brackets of the radio and the remote CD player.
15. Remove the instrument panel compartments, if equipped.
16. Remove the heater and the A/C control.
17. Remove the push-in fasteners that retain the radio, the heater, and the A/C wiring harnesses to the instrument panel carrier.
18. Remove the bolt that retains the steering column wiring harness to the instrument panel carrier.
19. Remove the nuts that retain the steering column to the instrument panel carrier.
20. Remove the instrument cluster wiring harness from the instrument panel carrier.




21. Remove the bolts that retain the instrument panel carrier to the vehicle.
22. Carefully rotate the instrument panel carrier out and downward in order to gain access to other components.
Do not remove the heater and A/C vacuum harness retainers from the air ducts.
23. Disconnect the heater and A/C vacuum harness connector at the lower right of the cowl area.
24. Remove the bolts that retain the air ducts to the instrument panel carrier.
25. Remove the air ducts from the instrument panel carrier.
26. Remove the wiring harness retainers from the instrument panel carrier.




27. Remove the instrument panel carrier from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the instrument panel carrier to the vehicle.
2. Install the wiring harness retainers to the instrument panel carrier.
3. Install the air ducts to the instrument panel carrier.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

4. Install the bolts that retain the air ducts to the instrument panel carrier.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

5. Connect the heater and A/C vacuum harness connector at the lower right of the cowl area.
6. Carefully rotate the instrument panel carrier in and upward in order to install additional components.




7. Install the bolts that retain the instrument panel carrier to the vehicle.
8. Install the instrument cluster wiring harness to the instrument panel carrier.
9. Install the nuts that retain the steering column to the instrument panel carrier.
10. Install the bolt that retains the steering column wiring harness to the instrument panel carrier.
11. Install the push-in fasteners that retain the radio, the heater, and the A/C wiring harnesses to the instrument panel carrier.
12. Install the heater and the A/C control.
13. Install the instrument panel compartments, if equipped.
14. Install the mounting brackets of the radio and the remote CD player.
15. Install the remote CD player, if equipped.
16. Install the radio, if equipped.
17. Install the engine cover.
18. Install the instrument panel upper trim pad.
19. Install the passenger side SIR Module.
20. Install the instrument panel passenger knee bolster inner and outer brackets.
21. Install the instrument panel driver knee bolster deflector assembly and the driver knee bolster inner and outer brackets.
22. Install the right hinge pillar trim panel.
23. Install the left hinge pillar trim panel.
24. Install the instrument panel lower extension upper trim panel.
25. Install the instrument cluster assembly.
26. Enable the SIR system.
27. Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to Battery Cable Replacement (Battery Disconnect/Connect) in Starting and Charging.
