Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble

ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE

- Tools Required
- J 41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers





1. Install the lock module assembly (1) onto the steering column tilt head assembly.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Screw the 3 pan head tapping screws (2) into the lock module assembly.
- Tighten the pan head tapping screws to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).





2. Install the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (1) onto the lock module assembly (2).
3. Screw the 2 tapping screws into the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (1).
- Tighten the tapping screws to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).

4. Install the key alarm connector (3) onto the lock module assembly (2).
4.1. Push the key alarm connector (1) into the lock module assembly (2).
4.2. Rotate the key alarm connector 90 degrees so that the key alarm connector locks into place.





5. Connect the park lock cable assembly (1).
- Place the lock cylinder in the accessory position.
- Place the gear shift lever into the PARK position.
- Press the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) into the slot in the lock module assembly.





6. Adjust the park lock cable assembly.
6.1. Use the shift lever to put the column in the PARK position.
6.2. Put the ignition switch in the accessory position. Remove the key.
6.3. Unlock the adjuster ring on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396.
6.4. Pull on the cable until the park lock latch contacts the shift lever clevis. Release the cable.
6.5. Securely lock the adjuster ring in place on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396.

7. Inspect the park lock cable assembly.
7.1. Put the lock cylinder in the accessory position. The shift lever should not shift out of the park position.
7.2. Turn the key to the run position and put the shift lever in the NEUTRAL position.
7.3. With the shift lever in the NEUTRAL position the lock cylinder should not go into the accessory position.
7.4. Put the shift lever into the PARK position.
7.5. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position. Remove the key.

8. Install the upper tilt head components. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle.
