REAR AXLE SHAFTRemoval Procedure
1. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation In Steering and Suspension and Suspension.
2. Remove the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement - Front in Brakes and Traction Control.
3. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Front in Brakes and Traction Control.
4. Remove the flange bolts (9).
5. Lightly rap the axle shaft (8) with a soft-faced hammer in order to loosen the shaft.
6. Grip the rib on the axle shaft flange with a locking pliers. Twist the axle shaft flange in order to start the axle shaft (8) removal.
7. Remove the axle shaft (8) from the tube (1).
8. Remove the gasket (7).
9. Clean the axle shaft flange and the outside face of the hub assembly (3).
10. Inspect all the parts. Replace the parts as necessary.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the gasket (7) onto the axle shaft (8).
2. Install the gasket (7) and the axle shaft (8) into the tube (1).
2.1. Ensure the shaft splines mesh into the differential side gear.
2.2. Align the holes in the axle flange and the gasket with the holes in the hub.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the axle flange bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 150 Nm (110 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Front in Brakes and Traction Control.
5. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement - Front in Brakes and Traction Control.
6. Install the wheel and tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation In Steering and Suspension and Suspension.
