Linear Shift

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
2. Remove the automatic transmission shift lock actuator. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Actuator Replacement - On Vehicle.





3. Disconnect the park lock cable assembly (1).
4. The steering column lock cylinder set should be in the OFF-LOCK position.
5. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the lock module assembly and push against the locking tab to remove.





6. Remove 3 flat head 6 lobed socket tap screws from the linear shift assembly
7. Remove the linear shift assembly from the steering column.
8. To disassemble the linear shift assembly as an assembly from the column, proceed to the next step.





9. Remove the hexagon flange head bolt from the gear shift lever assembly.
10. Remove the ball and actuator assembly (2) from the gear shift lever assembly.
11. Remove the shift lever clevis (1) from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.





12. Remove the 3 TORX screws from the shift gate.
Remove the park lock cable assembly from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.





13. Remove the hexagon flange head bolt from the cable shift cam assembly (1).
14. Remove the cable shift cam assembly (1) from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
15. Remove the cam bushing (2) from the cable shift cam assembly (1).





16. Remove the 3 Torx(R) screws from the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
17. Remove the gear shift lever assembly support bracket from the steering column support assembly.


Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





1. Install the linear shift assembly and secure using 3 TORX screws.
- Tighten the 3 Torx(R) screws to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
2. Go to step 14 to finish this procedure if you have installed the linear shift assembly.
3. If installing the linear shift assembly piece by piece to the column, proceed to the next step.





Important: Lubricate all of the moving parts of the linear shift assembly with synthetic grease.

4. Install the gear shift lever assembly support bracket onto the steering column support assembly.
5. Screw the 3 TORX screws into the gear shift lever assembly.
- Tighten the 3 TORX screws to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).





6. Insert the cam bushing (2) into the cable shift cam assembly (1).
7. Install the cable shift cam assembly (1) into the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
8. Screw the hexagon flange head bolt into the cable shift cam assembly (1).
- Tighten the hexagon flange head bolt to 18 Nm (14 ft. lbs.).





9. Install the park lock cable assembly onto the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
10. Screw the 3 TORX screws into the shift gate and park lock cable assembly.
- Tighten the 3 TORX screws to 6.5 Nm (58 inch lbs.).





11. Install the shift lever clevis (1) into the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
12. Install the ball actuator assembly (2) onto the gear shift lever assembly.
13. Install the hexagon flange head bolt into the gear shift lever assembly.
- Tighten the hexagon flange head bolt to 18 Nm (14 ft. lbs.).





14. Connect the park lock cable assembly (1) to the lock module assembly in the following way:
- Place the steering column lock cylinder set into the off position.
- Place the shift lever clevis into the park position.
- Press the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) into the slot in the lock module assembly.
15. Inspect the park lock cable assembly.
15.1. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position. The shift lever clevis should not be able to shift out of the park position.
15.2. Turn the key to the run position and put the shift lever clevis in the neutral position.
15.3. With the shift lever clevis in the neutral position the lock cylinder should not be able to go into the OFF-LOCK position.
15.4. Put the shift lever clevis into the park position.
Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position and then remove the key.
16. Install the automatic transmission shift lock actuator. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Actuator Replacement - On Vehicle.
17. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
