Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Set the air flow control to the instrument panel (IP) vent position, if equipped with air conditioning.
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
3. Apply the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from moving.
4. If the transmission is automatic, move the shift lever all the way down.
5. Tilt the steering wheel to the full down position.
6. Remove the IP cluster trim plate bezel.
7. Remove the end panels. The left side is shown in the graphic, and the right side is similar to the left side.
8. Remove the air outlets.
9. Remove the assist handle by depressing the release tabs accessed through the air outlet duct holes.
10. Remove the windshield pillar garnish moldings.
11. Remove the bolts retaining the pad to IP assembly
12. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) to the ambient light sensor on the underside of the trim pad.
13. Remove the trim pad from the assembly.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the trim pad to the IP assembly.
2. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the ambient light sensor on the underside of the trim pad.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the trim pad retaining screws.
Tighten the trim pad retaining screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
4. Install the windshield pillar garnish moldings.
5. Align the assist handle with the holes in the IP assembly. Push the handle in order to engage the retaining tabs.
6. Install the air outlets.
7. Install the end panels. The left side is shown in the graphic, and the right side is similar to the left side.
8. Install the IP cluster trim plate bezel.
9. Tilt the steering wheel to the normal driving position.
10. If the transmission is automatic, move the shift lever to the park position.
11. Disengage the parking brake.
12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
