Heater Hoses Replacement (LP4/L21 Inlet)

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 38723 Heater Line Quick Connect Separator




1. Remove the bolts and washers from the inlet pipe brackets.
2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
3. Disengage the engine wiring harness from the plastic retainer.
4. Disconnect the inlet hose clamp at the heater core hose. Loosen the clamp in order to slide the clamp away from the fitting on the inlet hose.




5. Disconnect the inlet hose (5) from the heater core.
6. Push the inlet pipe into the connector and insert the J 38723 into the connector to release the locking tabs (2, 3).
7. Pull the retainer and the pipe from the heater inlet connector.
8. Pull the retainer (4) and the pipe from the heater inlet connector (1).

Important:
* If you are replacing the heater inlet connector, remove the retainer from the pipe. Discard the retainer. The new connector is equipped with the retainer.

* If you are replacing the pipe, remove the retainer from the pipe and reinsert the retainer in the connector.

* If you are reusing the pipe and the connector, the retainer can remain in place on the pipe.


9. Inspect the O-ring sealing surface on the pipe and the connector.

Installation Procedure




1. Push the pipe into the connector (1) until the retainer tabs (2, 3) lock.
2. Pull back on the pipe in order to check for proper retainer (4) engagement.




3. Connect the inlet hose to the heater core.

Important:
* If you have replaced the heater inlet connector. Install the new connector.

* If you are replacing the pipe, remove the retainer from the pipe and reinsert the retainer in the connector.

* If you are reusing the pipe and the connector, the retainer can remain in place on the pipe.


4. Install the inlet hose clamp.

Tighten the heater inlet connector to 45 Nm(33 lb ft).

5. Connect the heater inlet pipe bolt.
6. Engage the engine wiring harness to the plastic retainer.
7. Fill the engine with coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
8. Install the air cleaner, if necessary.
9. Inspect the system for leaks.
