Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 23653-SIR Lock Plate Compressor
1. Turn the front wheels straight ahead.
2. Place the ignition switch in the "LOCK" position and remove the key.
3. Mark the steering wheel shaft (5) and the steering wheel (1) in order to allow installation in the same position as when removed.
4. Remove the steering wheel (1). Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement Tilt.
5. Remove the bearing retainer (1) using J 23653-SIR .
6. Remove the steering shaft spacer (1).
7. Remove the turn signal cancel cam (2).
8. Remove the upper bearing spring (3).
9. Remove the upper bearing inner race seat (4).
10. Remove the inner race (5).
11. Remove the steering column filler panel.
12. Remove the support bracket (2) if necessary, to gain access to the wire harness.
13. Remove the wire protector.
14. Remove the wire harness assembly straps.
15. Disconnect the turn signal and multifunction switch electrical connector.
16. Remove the round washer head screw (2).
17. Remove the signal switch arm assembly (3).
18. Remove the pan head 6-lobed socket screws (1).
19. Pull the turn signal switch assembly connector through the column and remove the turn signal switch assembly.
Installation Procedure
1. Pull the turn signal switch assembly connector through the column.
2. Install the turn signal switch assembly onto the steering shaft assembly.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
3. Install the pan head 6-lobed socket screws (1).
Tighten the screws to 3.5 Nm (31 lb in).
4. Lubricate and install the signal switch arm assembly (3).
5. Install the round washer head screw (2).
Tighten the screw to 2.5 Nm (21 lb in).
6. Install the wire protector.
7. Install the wire harness assembly straps.
8. Connect the turn signal and multifunction switch electrical connector.
9. Install the support bracket (2) if removed.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
10. Install the support bracket bolts and nuts.
* Tighten the steering column bracket bolt/screw to 13 Nm (115 lb in).
* Tighten the steering column support bracket nut to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
11. Install the steering column filler panel.
12. Install the inner race (5).
13. Install the upper bearing inner race seat (4).
14. Install the upper bearing spring (3).
15. Lubricate the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2) with lithium grease.
16. Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2).
17. Install the steering shaft spacer (1).
18. Install the bearing retainer using J 23653-SIR .
19. Align the marks which were made during the removal procedure and install the steering wheel (1). Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement Tilt.
