Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





Important: Prior to camshaft sensor removal, align the timing mark on the front engine cover and the crankshaft balancer to 0 degrees before top dead center (BTDC). Be sure the bank 1 cylinder 1 is on the compression stroke, or that the intake and exhaust valves are closed.


2. Remove the interior engine access cover if applicable.




3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor (2).
4. Remove the camshaft position sensor retaining bolt (1).
5. Remove the camshaft position sensor (2).

Installation Procedure

Description:





Important: Remove the camshaft sensors top cover. Install the camshaft sensor with the flat side of the cap toward the front of the engine.


1. Rotate the oil pump drive shaft to accept the tang in the camshaft sensor drive. Align the mark on the gear of the camshaft sensor with the mark on the lower base of the camshaft sensor





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the camshaft sensor (2) and tighten the sensor clamp.

Tighten the bolt to 33 Nm (24 lb ft).

3. Install the camshaft sensors top cover.
4. Connect the camshaft sensor electrical connector.
5. Install the interior engine access cover if applicable.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
