Diagnostic System Check - Variable Effort Steering (VES)

Test Description

Important: Vehicles without RTD use the BCM to control EVO functions. When the vehicle is equipped with RTD, EVO is controlled by the RTD module. The SERVICE RIDE CONTROL message will be displayed with most EVO trouble codes on RTD equipped vehicles. It may be necessary to access the IPC information when diagnosing a DTC on a vehicle with RTD.

Do not try to use the history DTC to diagnosis any system problems on vehicles equipped with the RTD system. Some history DTC's may have been set falsely by the system.

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.
2. Lack of communication may be due to a partial malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit or due to a total malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit. The specified procedure will determine the particular condition.
3. This procedure will determine if there are any DTCs listed in the control module for that vehicle.
4. The presence of DTCs which begin with "U" indicate some other module is not communicating. The specified procedure will compile all the available information before tests are performed.
