Brake Pedal Travel
^ Tools Required- J 28662 Brake Pedal Effort Gauge
Brake pedal travel is the distance the brake pedal moves toward the floor from a fully released position. Make this check with the brakes cold and with tool J 28662.
1. With the engine off, press and release the brake pedal.
2. Repeat Step 1 five times in order to exhaust vacuum from the vacuum booster.
3. Measure the distance from the bottom of the steering wheel to the brake pedal with the brake pedal released.
4. Apply about 455 N (100 lbs.) on the brake pedal. Use the J 28662.
5. Measure the distance again.
6. Subtract the first measurement from the second measurement.
7. If the brake pedal travel is more than 64 mm (2.5 inch), refer to Hydraulic Brake Diagnostic System Check in Hydraulic Brakes.
