Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble

Assembly Procedure





1. Install the lock bolt spring (3) into the steering column housing assembly (5).
2. Position the cutout in the lock bolt assembly (4) at the 6 o'clock position.
3. Install the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column housing assembly (5).
4. Push the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column housing assembly (5) until the lock bolt assembly is flush with the steering column housing assembly (5).
5. Align the lock module assembly (2) with the steering column housing assembly (5).
Install the lock module assembly (2) onto the steering column housing assembly (5).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

6. Screw the 3 pan head tapping screws (1) into the lock module assembly (2).
Tighten the 3 pan head tapping screws to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).





7. Place steering column lock cylinder set into the off position.
8. Place the shift lever into the park position.
9. Press the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) into the slot in the lock module assembly.





10. Adjust the park lock cable assembly (1) by performing the following steps:
10.1. Use the shift lever clevis to place the steering column in the park position.
10.2. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
10.3. Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the off or lock position.
10.4. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
10.5. Unlock the adjuster ring on the park lock cable assembly using J 41396.
10.6. Pull on the park lock cable until the park lock latch contacts the shift lever clevis.
10.7. Release the park lock cable.
10.8. Lock the adjuster ring securely in place on the park lock cable assembly using J 41396.
11. Inspect the park lock cable assembly by performing the following steps:
11.1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
11.2. Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the off or lock position. The shift lever clevis must remain locked in the park position.
11.3. Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the run position.
11.4. Place the shift lever clevis in the neutral position.
11.5. With the shift lever clevis in the neutral position, the steering column lock cylinder set must remain out of the off or lock position.
11.6. Place the shift lever clevis in the park position.
11.7. Put the steering column lock cylinder set in the off or lock position.
11.8. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
12. Install the ignition and key alarm switch assembly only. Refer to Ignition and Key Alarm Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle.
13. Install the upper column components. Refer to Steering Column Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle.
