Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURECAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Relieve fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
4. Remove the fuel feed pipe nuts (1) from both sides of the fuel filter.
5. Remove the fuel filter mounting clamp bolt (1).
6. Remove the filter (4) and the clamp (3) from fuel lines.
7. Drain any remaining fuel from the fuel pipes into an approved gasoline container.
8. Remove the mounting clamp from the fuel filter.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the mounting clamp (3) onto the fuel filter (4).
IMPORTANT: Be sure to install the fuel filter with the embossed arrow pointing in the direction of fuel flow.
2. Install the fuel filter (4) and clamp (3) to the fuel pipe.
3. Install the clamp bolt (1).
4. Tighten
Tighten the fuel filter mounting clamp bolt to 11 N.m (97 lb in).
5. Install the fuel feed pipe nuts (1).
6. Tighten
Tighten the fuel feed pipe nuts to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
8. Inspect for leaks.
8.1. Turn ON the ignition switch for 2 seconds.
8.2. Turn OFF the ignition switch for 10 seconds.
8.3. Turn ON the ignition switch for 2 seconds.
8.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
