Addition of DTC B2961 Diagnostics
Models:
2000 Chevrolet and GMC C/K Pickup and Utility Models,
S/T Models and M/L Vans
2000 Oldsmobile Bravada
This Service Manual Update bulletin is being issued to add the diagnostics for DTC B2961 Key in Ignition Circuit Malfunction. Please add the following diagnostics to the Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console subsection of the applicable 2000 Service Manual.
Circuit Description
The body control module (BCM) monitors the ignition key alarm switch. When the key is in the ignition, the ignition key alarm switch is closed (signal circuit is low). When the key is not in the ignition, the ignition key alarm switch is open (signal circuit is high).
Conditions for Running the DTC
The ignition is ON.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
^ The ignition 1 input is active and the key in ignition switch signal circuit is inactive (signal circuit is high).
^ The conditions above must be present for more than 5 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The BCM stores DTC B2961 in memory.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
^ The DTC becomes history when the fault is no longer present.
^ A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present.
^ You may use a scan tool in order to clear the DTC.
DTC B2961 Key in Ignition Circuit Malfunction (C/K Pickup and Utility)
Circuit Description
The Body Control Module (BCM) monitors the ignition key alarm switch. When the key is in the ignition, the ignition key alarm switch is closed (signal circuit is low). When the key is not in the ignition, the ignition key alarm switch is open (signal circuit is high).
Conditions for Running the DTC
The ignition is ON.

^ The ignition 1 voltage circuit is active and the key in ignition switch signal circuit is inactive (signal circuit is high).
^ The conditions above must be present for more than 5 seconds.
