Multifunction, Turn Signal & Hazard Switch
- Tools Required- J 1859-A Steering Wheel Puller
Removal Procedure
1. Ensure that the turn signal lever on the multifunction switch is in the center or OFF position.
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.
3. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
4. Remove the inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Restraint Systems.
5. Remove the steering wheel nut.
6. Use the J1859-A in order to remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
7. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
8. Remove the two TORX(R)head screws from the lower column cover.
9. Tilt the cover down and slide the cover back in order to disengage the locking tabs. Lower the column cover.
10. Remove the two Torx head screws from the upper column cover.
11. Remove the steering column lock set. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle Tilt or Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle Standard.
12. Remove the upper column cover.
13. Remove the two wire harness straps from the steering column wire harness.
14. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer from the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI).
15. Disconnect the steering column bulkhead connector from the vehicle harness.
16. Disconnect the gray and black connectors of the switch from the column bulkhead connector.
17. Remove the two TORX(R)head screws from the switch.
18. Remove the multifunction turn signal/hazard switch from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the multifunction switch to the steering column.
- Use a small screwdriver in order to compress the electrical contact and move the multifunction switch into position.
- The electrical contact must rest on the canceling cam assembly.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the screws that retain the multifunction switch to the steering column.
Tighten the screws to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
3. Install the gray and black wiring harness connectors to the steering column bulkhead connector.
4. Install the steering column bulkhead connector to the vehicle wire harness.
Tighten the center screw to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
5. Install the connector and the CPA and retainer to the BTSI.
6. Install the straps that secure the steering column wiring harness. Install the steering column upper cover.
Tighten the steering column bracket nuts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
9. Install the steering column lock set. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle.
10. install the two TORX(R)head screws to the upper column cover.
Tighten the screws to 1.4 Nm (12 inch lbs.).
11. Install the lower column cover.
12. Install the two TORX(R)head screws to the lower column cover.
Tighten the screws to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
13. Make sure the lever is in the center or the OFF position.
14. Install the steering Heel onto the steering shaft. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
15. Install the steering wheel nut.
Tighten the steering wheel nut to 40 Nm (29 ft. lbs.).
16. Install the inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Restraint Systems.
17. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
18. Connect the battery negative cable.
