Front Coil Spring Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution In Service Precautions.

1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist so that the control arms hang free. Support the vehicle with safety stands.





2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel/ Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
3. Remove the stabilizer shaft link pins from the lower control arm.
4. Remove the shock absorber. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement.





5. Cradle the lower control arm at the control arm bushings using the J2302801 secured to the end of a suitable jack.
6. Raise the jack in order to relieve tension on the lower control arm pivot bolts.





7. Remove the lower control arm pivot bolts and nuts.





8. Lower the control arm by lowering the jack slowly to remove the coil spring.
9. Remove the coil spring and the insulator (1).

Installation Procedure





1. Install the coil spring and the insulator.
- The coil spring is installed with the taper at the highest position, and a gripper notch at the lower position (2).
- Align the bottom of the coil spring to the proper position in the lower control arm.
- Make sure the spring insulator (1) is on top.





2. Support the lower control arm at the control arm bushings using the J23028-01.
3. Raise the jack to install the control arm in place. Guide the control arm into place with a pry bar.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Important: The lower control arm pivots bolts must be installed in the proper direction.
The nuts must be tightened with the control arm at Z height. Refer to Trim Height Inspection Procedure in Suspension General Diagnosis.





4. Install the new lower control arm pivot bolts and nuts.
5. Remove the J23028-01 from the vehicle.
6. Install the shock absorber. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement.





7. Install the stabilizer shaft link pin.
Tighten the link pin assembly retaining nut to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
9. Remove the safety stands.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Tighten the lower control arm pivot bolts.
Tighten the lower control arm pivot bolts to 155 Nm (115 lb ft.)
