A Symptoms
IMPORTANT: Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Cruise Control before using the Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true:- There are no DTCs set.
- The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.
Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to Cruise Control Description and Operation (W/ETC) or Cruise Control Description and Operation (Diesel).
Visual/Physical Inspection
^ Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the Cruise Control System. Refer to Checking Aftermarket Accessories in Diagrams.
^ Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
Intermittent
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections in Diagrams.

Refer to the following symptom diagnostic procedure to diagnose the symptom: Cruise Control Inoperative/Malfunctioning (Diesel) or Cruise Control Inoperative/Malfunctioning (W/ETC)
Diagnostic AIDS
IMPORTANT: Perform the following in order to avoid misdiagnosis.
^ Inspect for proper operation of brake lamps and clutch switch, if equipped.
^ EMI on the speed sensor signal circuit may cause erratic cruise control operation.
Conditions For Enabling Cruise Control
The vehicle speed is greater than 40 km/h (25 mph).
