Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDUREIMPORTANT: If the in-line filter is plugged, the fuel tank should be inspected internally and cleaned if necessary. Refer to Fuel System Cleaning.
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
3. Disconnect the fuel pipes (1) at the fuel filter.
4. Remove the fuel filter from the bracket.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Remove the protective caps from the new filter.
2. Install the fuel filter in the bracket noting the direction of fuel flow arrow.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Connect the fuel pipes (1) to the fuel filter.
Tighten
Tighten the fuel pipe fillings to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
6. Inspect for fuel leaks using the following procedure:
6.1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
6.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
6.3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
6.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
