Rear Axle Hub, Bearing, Cup, and Seal Replacement

^ Tools Required
- J35290 Outer Bearing and Cup Remover
- J45363 Inner Bearing Cup Installer
- J45364 Outer Bearing Cup Installer
- J45366 Seal Installer
- J8092 Driver Handle

Removal Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove the hub and rotor assembly.
4. Remove the oil seal from the wheel hub using a suitable seal removal tool.





5. Remove the inner hub bearing.





6. Remove the inner hub bearing cup using a brass drift and a hammer.





7. Remove the retaining ring from the wheel hub.





8. Remove the outer hub bearing and the bearing cup using the J35290 (2) and the J8092 (1).





9. Remove the wheel bearing spacer.

Installation Procedure
1. Lubricate the following with a light coat of high melting point EP bearing lubricant:
^ The outer wheel bearing
^ The inner wheel bearing
^ The outer wheel bearing cup
^ The inner wheel bearing cup
^ The axle housing





2. Install the wheel bearing spacer into the wheel hub.
The tabs on the spacer must face towards the inner wheel bearing.





3. Install the outer wheel bearing.





4. Install the outer bearing cup.





5. Drive the bearing cup into the wheel hub using the J45364 (2) and the J8092 (1).





6. Install the retaining ring into the groove. Make sure the retaining ring is fully and evenly seated in the groove.





7. Install the inner bearing cup into the wheel hub.





8. Drive the inner bearing cup into the wheel hub using the J45363 (2) and the J8092 (1).





9. Install the inner wheel bearing.

Important: Each time you replace the wheel hub bearings, install a new oil seal in order to prevent the wheel hub from leaking.





10. Install the new oil seal using the J45366 (2) and the J8092 (1).
11. Install the hub and rotor assembly.
12. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
13. Inspect and add axle lubricant to the axle housing, if necessary.
14. Lower the vehicle.
