Linear Shift Assembly - Off Vehicle





1. Remove the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle.
2. Remove the automatic transmission shift lock control. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control - Disassemble - Off Vehicle.
3. Remove the hexagon flanged head bolt and the ball and actuator assembly (2).
4. Remove the shift lever clevis (1).





5. Remove the park lock cable (1) from the electronic lock module assembly.





6. Remove the 2 oval head 6-lobed socket tapping screws from the shift gate.
7. Remove the park lock cable assembly.





8. Remove the hexagon flange head bolt.
9. Remove the cable shift cam assembly (1).
10. Remove the cam bushing (2) from the cable shift cam assembly (1).





11. Remove the 3 flat head 6-lobed socket tapping screws.
12. Remove the gearshift lever assembly support bracket.

Linear Shift Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle
- Tools Required
- J 41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Important: Lubricate all moving parts of the linear shift assembly with synthetic grease.

1. Install the gearshift lever assembly support bracket.
2. Install the 3 flat head 6-lobed socket tap screws.
- Tighten the screws to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).





3. Insert the cam bushing (2) into the cable shift cam assembly (1).
4. Install the cable shift cam assembly (1).
5. Install the hexagon flange head bolt.
- Tighten the screw to 18 Nm (14 ft. lbs.).





6. Install the park lock cable assembly and secure by using the 2 oval head 6-lobed socket tap screws.
- Tighten the screws to 6.5 Nm (58 inch lbs.).





7. Install the shift lever clevis (1).
8. Install the ball actuator assembly (2).
9. Install the hexagon flanged head bolt.
- Tighten the bolt to 18 Nm (14 ft. lbs.).
10. Put the column in the NEUTRAL position.
11. Install the automatic transmission shift lock control only. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control - Assemble - Off Vehicle.





12. Adjust the park lock cable assembly using the following steps:
12.1. Use the shift lever clevis to put the column in the PARK position.
12.2. Put the ignition switch in the OFF-LOCK position. Remove the key.
12.3. Unlock the adjuster ring (1) on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396.
12.4. Pull on the cable until the park lock latch contacts the shift lever clevis. Release the cable.
12.5. Lock the adjuster ring (1) securely in place on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396.
13. Inspect the park lock cable assembly using the following steps:
13.1. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position. The shift lever clevis should not be able to shift out of the PARK position.
13.2. Turn the key to the RUN position and put the shift lever clevis in the NEUTRAL position.
13.3. With the shift lever clevis in the NEUTRAL position the lock cylinder should not be able to go into the OFF-LOCK position.
13.4. Put the shift lever clevis into the PARK position.
13.5. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position and then remove the key.
13.6. Install the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle.
