Steering Column Jacket

Steering Column Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle (Column Shift)
- Tools Required
- J 23653-SIR Lock Plate Compressor





1. If the steering column has an inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil - Disassemble - Off Vehicle.
Let the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil hang freely.
Proceed to step 3.
2. If the steering column does not have an inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle.
3. Remove and dispose of the bearing retainer using J 23653-SIR.





4. Remove the shaft lock shield assembly (1).
5. Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2).
6. Remove the upper bearing spring (3).
7. Remove the thrust washer (4).

- J 23653-SIR Lock Plate Compressor





1. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil - Disassemble - Off Vehicle.
Let the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil hang freely.
2. Remove and dispose of the bearing retainer using J 23653-SIR.





3. Remove the shaft lock shield assembly (1).
4. Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2).
5. Remove the upper bearing spring (3).
6. Remove the thrust washer (4).

Steering Column Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Column Shift)





1. Install the thrust washer (3).
2. Install the upper bearing spring (2).
3. Lubricate the turn signal cancel cam assembly (1) with synthetic grease.
Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (1).





4. Install the shaft lock shield assembly.





5. Install the new bearing retainer using J 23653-SIR.
6. If the steering column has an inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil - Assemble - Off Vehicle.
7. If the steering column does not have an inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle.

Steering Column Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Floor Shift)





1. Install the thrust washer (3).
2. Install the upper bearing spring (2).
3. Lubricate the turn signal cancel cam assembly (1) with synthetic grease.
Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (1).





4. Install the shaft lock shield assembly.





5. Install the new bearing retainer using J 23653-SIR.
6. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil - Assemble - Off Vehicle.
