Fan Support Bracket Replacement

Tools Required
* J 38425 Fan Hub Wrench
* J 38426 Pulley Strap Wrench

Removal Procedure

1. When the brackets affecting belt alignment are installed on the engine, a very specific installation and torque sequence must be followed. Failure to follow the specific installation and torque sequence may cause improper belt position and a subsequent lack of belt retention condition.
2. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement (L18) Service and Repair.
3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Caterpillar(R) 3126 Unit Repair Manual.
4. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (LG5) Generator Replacement (LG5)Generator Replacement (L18) Generator Replacement (L18) in Engine Electrical.
5. Remove the generator adjusting bracket from the fan drive support assembly bolts.




6. Loosen the air conditioning compressor mounting bolts, if equipped.
7. Loosen the air conditioning compressor lower mounting bracket bolts.




8. Remove the fan drive support assembly bolts.
9. Remove the fan drive support assembly from the engine.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the fan drive support assembly to the engine.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the fan drive support assembly mounting bolts.

Tighten the fan drive support mounting bolts to 68 Nm (50 lb ft).

3. Connect the generator adjusting bracket to the fan drive support assembly mounting bolts.

Tighten the generator adjusting bracket bolts to 73 Nm (54 lb ft).

4. Connect the air conditioning compressor mounting bolts to the fan drive support assembly.

Tighten the air conditioning top mounting bolts to 53 Nm (39 lb ft).




5. Install the air conditioning compressor to the lower mounting bracket bolts, if equipped.

Tighten the air conditioning compressor-to-lower mounting bracket bolts to 53 Nm (39 lb ft).

6. Install the air conditioning lower mounting bracket-to-engine bolts.

Tighten the air conditioning lower mounting bracket-to-engine bolt to 73 Nm (54 lb ft).

7. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (LG5) Generator Replacement (LG5)Generator Replacement (L18) Generator Replacement (L18) in Engine Electrical.
8. Install the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement (L18) Service and Repair.
9. Install the drive belt. Refer to Caterpillar(R) 3126 Unit Repair Manual.
