Inter-Axle Differential Air Shift Chamber Replacement
Inter-Axle Differential Air Shift Chamber Replacement
Removal Procedure
Notice: Do not remove the pushrod. Removal of the pushrod will result in the shift fork and compression spring falling into the power divider. If this occurs, damage to the power divider can result.
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Block the wheels.
3. Drain all of the air reservoirs. Refer to Draining Reservoirs .
4. Remove the air line at the inter rear axle differential air shift valve. Refer to Hose and Line Replacement - Nylon and Metal Compression in Air Brakes.
5. Remove the inter rear axle differential air shift chamber bolts (1).
6. Remove the inter rear axle differential air shift chamber and the gasket from the power divider.
7. Inspect the air lines for the following conditions:
* Damage
* Kinks
* Wear
8. Repair or replace the air lines as needed. Refer to Hose and Line Replacement - Nylon and Metal Compression in Air Brakes.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the inter rear axle differential air shift chamber and the gasket onto the power divider.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the inter rear axle differential air shift chamber bolts (1).
Tighten the inter rear axle differential air shift chamber bolts (1) to 43 Nm (32 lb ft).
3. Install the air line to the inter rear axle differential air shift chamber. Refer to Hose and Line Replacement - Nylon and Metal Compression in Air Brakes.
4. Start the engine. Charge the system to the air compressor governor cutout point.
5. Stop the engine.
6. Inspect for air leaks using a soap solution. Air leakage is not allowed.
7. Verify proper operation of the inter-axle differential lock.
8. Remove the wheel blocks.
