Wiper and Washer Systems: Description and Operation
Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation
Wiper/Washer System Components (Standard)
The standard wiper/washer system consists of the following components:
* Windshield wiper motor
* Windshield wiper/washer switch
* Windshield washer pump
* WASH/WIPE 25A circuit breaker
Wiper/Washer System Operation (Standard)
The operating voltage to the windshield wiper motor and windshield washer pump is controlled through the windshield wiper/washer switch. The accessory voltage supply circuit to the windshield wiper motor is used to operate the wiper motor park function. Whenever the wiper motor is out of the park position the wiper motor park switch cam closes the accessory voltage circuit to the park switch control circuit. The park switch control circuit is supplied to the off terminal in the windshield wiper/washer switch. When the windshield wiper/washer switch is turned to the off position the low speed control circuit is closed to the park switch control circuit and voltage is supplied to the wiper motor until the wiper arms reach the park position and the park switch cam opens the contact between the accessory voltage circuit and the park switch control circuit.
Wiper/Washer System Components (Pulse)
The standard wiper/washer system consists of the following components:
* Windshield wiper motor
* Windshield wiper motor module
* Windshield wiper/washer switch
* Windshield washer pump
* WASH/WIPE 25A circuit breaker
Wiper/Washer System Operation (Pulse)
The windshield wiper motor module controls the accessory voltage supply circuit used to power the windshield wiper motor and windshield washer pump during all operating modes. During mist, pulse, and low operation, accessory voltage supplied to the windshield wiper/washer switch is reduced through one of the internal resistors and supplied to the wiper motor module through the low/pulse signal circuit. When the windshield washer switch is pressed, the accessory voltage supply circuit to the windshield wiper/washer switch is closed to the low/pulse signal circuit with no resistor. The pulse interval, low speed operation, and wash mode is determined by the voltage level of the low/pulse signal circuit to the windshield wiper motor module. When the windshield wiper/washer switch is turned to the high speed position the accessory voltage to the switch is closed to the high speed signal circuit and the windshield wiper motor module operates the wiper motor at high speed.
