16. Transmission Front Case Assemble

Transmission Front Case Assemble

^ Tools Required
- J 8092 Driving Handle
- J 21465-13 Driver Handle Extension
- J 25070 Heat Gun
- J 44741 Shift Rail Bearing Installer
- J 44745 Countershaft Bearing Race Installer
- J 44746 Mainshaft and Input Shaft Bearing Race Installer





1. Apply teflon sealer GM P/N 1236004 or equivalent to the threads of the transmission vent.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the transmission vent.
^ Tighten the transmission vent to 10 Nm (88 ft. lbs.).





3. Install a new Power Take Off (PTO) cover gasket to the case.
4. Install the PTO cover.
5. Clean the old threadlocker from the PTO cover bolt threads.
6. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345382 or equivalent to the threads of the PTO cover bolts.
7. Install the PTO bolts.
^ Tighten the PTO cover bolts in a cross torque pattern to 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.).





8. Using the J 25070 heat the front case for 10 to 15 minutes.





Important: Install the bearing races with the front case still hot. Do not allow the front case to cool.

9. Install the shift rail bearing with the part number up, in the front case using the J 8092 (1) and the J 44741 (2). The J 44741 (2) will position the bearing to the proper depth.

10. Install the countershaft front bearing race using the J 8092 (1), J 21465-13 (2), and the J 44745 (3).
Do not install the countershaft bearing shims at this time. The shims will be installed after the preload is determined.





11. Install the main shaft front bearing race using the J 8092 (1), J 21465-13 (2), and the J 44746 (3).
Do not install the main shaft front bearing shims or the oil deflector at this time. The shims and the oil deflector will be installed after the preload is determined
12. Allow the front case to cool.
