General Description
The OnStar(R) system on this vehicle will be one of three systems. All three systems have many components in common. The three system all use a GPS antenna, cellular antenna, microphone and OnStar(R) button assembly. The systems all also interface with the vehicle audio system. The OnStar(R) system on this vehicle is one of the following:^ The OnStar(R) system version 2.0 provides the customer with impact detection, navigation instructions, emergency services, stolen vehicle tracking and recovery service, roadside assistance, unlock doors, flash lights and pulse the horn. The system uses all the common components listed above. Two additional components on the OnStar(R) system version 2.0 system are the Vehicle Interface Unit (VIU) and the Vehicle Communication Unit (VCU).
^ The OnStar(R) system version 2.6 provides all the same features and uses all the same hardware as version 2.0. In addition OnStar(R) system version 2.6 includes a hands free cellular phone. The OnStar(R) phone is a full featured cellular phone that uses voice commands for dialing and programming.
^ The OnStar(R) system version F1 provides all the same features as version 2.6. On a vehicle with the F1 system the vehicle interface unit (VIU) and the vehicle communication unit (VCU) have been replace by one unit called the Communication Interface Module.
