17. Rear Ball Bearing Removal

^ J43769 Spanner Nut Wrench - 4-wheel drive
1. Position the transmission so that the rear of the transmission is facing up.
2. Remove the flange or yoke (1) from the output shaft (2).
3. If present, remove the oil seal assembly.
Important: The fullest clockwise position of the selector shaft is park (P), which engages the park pawl.
4. On 4WD transmissions only, use a wrench on selector shaft flats (1) to rotate the selector shaft to its fullest clockwise position.
5. On 4WD transmissions only, perform the following steps:
5.1. Install J43769 (1) onto the output nut (2).
5.2. Remove the output nut (2).
6. Remove the retaining ring (1) from the rear cover (2).
7. Assemble 3 J43910 to J24420-B.
8. Place the foot of each leg between the 2 bearing balls.
9. Twist each leg until the foot of the leg is forced under the bearing races.
10. Adjust the center screw (4) and each leg nut (1) until the body of J24420-B is perpendicular to the rear face of the main housing.
11. Tighten the center screw (4) until ball bearing assembly (3) is dislodged.
12. Remove J43910, J24420-B, and J43769 from the ball bearing assembly.
13. For both transmissions, remove the selective spacer (1).
