Electronic Column Lock Module
Electronic Column Lock Module - Disassemble - Off Vehicle (Column Shift)- Tools Required
- J 41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers
1. Remove the steering column lock cylinder set.
2. Remove the turn signal cancel cam, bearing thrust washer. Refer to Turn Signal Cancel Cam and Bearing Thrust Washer- Disassemble - Off Vehicle.
3. Remove the park lock cable assembly (1) from the electronic lock module assembly.
3.1. Place the steering column lock cylinder set into the OFF position.
3.2. Place the shift lever clevis into the PARK position.
3.3. Use a small blade to push against the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1).
3.4. Disconnect the park lock cable assembly (1) from the electronic lock module assembly.
4. Rotate the key alarm connector (1) 90 degrees.
5. Pull the key alarm connector (1) out of the electronic lock module assembly (2).
6. Remove the passkey connector from the electronic lock module assembly (2).
7. Slide the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (2) out of the electronic lock module assembly (1) by releasing the tabs.
8. Let the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (2) hang freely.
9. Remove the 3 pan head tapping screws (1) from the electronic lock module assembly (2).
Important: The lock bolt assembly (4) is under slight spring tension from the lock bolt spring (3). Hold the lock bolt (4) in place while removing the electronic lock module assembly (2).
10. Remove the electronic lock module assembly (2) and the lock bolt assembly (4) from the steering column housing assembly (5).
11. Remove the lock bolt spring (3) from the lock bolt assembly (4).
Assemble

- J 41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers
1. Install the lock bolt spring (3) into the steering column housing assembly (5).
2. Position the cutout in the lock bolt assembly (4) at the 6 o'clock position.
3. Install the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column housing assembly (5).
4. Push the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column housing assembly (5) until the lock bolt assembly is flush with the steering column housing assembly (5).
5. Align the electronic lock module assembly (2) with the steering column housing assembly (5).
Install the electronic lock module assembly (2) onto the steering column housing assembly (5).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
6. Screw the 3 pan head tapping screws (1) into the electronic lock module assembly (2).
Tighten
Tighten the 3 pan head tapping screws to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).
7. Slide the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (3) into the electronic lock module assembly (1).
8. Push the key alarm connector (1) into the electronic lock module assembly (2).
9. Rotate the key alarm connector 90 degrees so that the key alarm connector locks into place.
10. Install the passkey connector into the electronic lock module assembly (2).
11. Place steering column lock cylinder set into the OFF position.
12. Place the shift lever clevis into the PARK position.
13. Press the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) into the slot in the electronic lock module assembly.
14. Install the steering column lock cylinder set only.
15. Adjust the park lock cable assembly (1) by performing the following steps:
15.1. Use the shift lever clevis to place the steering column in the PARK position.
15.2. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
15.3. Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the OFF-LOCK position.
15.4. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
15.5. Unlock the adjuster ring on the park lock cable assembly using J 41396.
15.6. Pull on the park lock cable until the park lock latch contacts the shift lever clevis.
15.7. Release the park lock cable.
15.8. Lock the adjuster ring securely in place on the park lock cable assembly using J 41396.
16. Inspect the park lock cable assembly by performing the following steps:
16.1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
16.2. Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the OFF-LOCK position. The shift lever clevis must remain locked in the PARK position.
16.3. Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the RUN position.
16.4. Place the shift lever clevis in the NEUTRAL position.
16.5. With the shift lever clevis in the NEUTRAL position, the steering column lock cylinder set must remain out of the OFF-LOCK position.
16.6 Place the shift lever clevis in the PARK position.
16.7 Put the steering column lock cylinder set in the OFF-LOCK position.
16.8 Remove the key from the ignition switch.
17. Install the turn signal cancel cam, bearing thrust washer. Refer to Turn Signal Cancel Cam and Bearing Thrust Washer - Assemble - Off Vehicle.
