Steering Column Trim Covers
Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - on VehicleRemoval Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
3. Remove the lower steering column trim cover mounting screws (1).
4. Remove the lower steering column trim cover from the upper steering column trim cover.
4.1. Tilt the lower steering column trim cover down.
4.2. Slide the lower steering column trim cover backward in order to disengage the locking tabs.
5. Remove the trim cover protector (1) from the lower steering column trim cover (2).
6. Remove the upper steering column trim cover mounting screws (1).
7. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle.
8. Remove the upper steering column trim cover (2) from the steering column.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the upper steering column trim cover (2) onto the steering column.
2. Install the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the upper steering column trim cover mounting screws (1).
- Tighten the upper steering column trim cover mounting screws (1) to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).
4. Install the trim cover protector (1) to the lower steering column trim cover (2).
Important: The shift lever seal must be seated in the covers.
5. Install the lower steering column trim cover to the upper steering column trim cover.
5.1. Match the tab slots on the lower steering column trim cover with the locking tabs on the upper steering column trim cover.
5.2. Tilt the lower steering column Tim cover up.
5.3. Slide the lower steering column trim cover forward until the locking tabs snap into the tab slots.
6. Install the lower steering column trim cover mounting screws (1).
- Tighten the lower steering column trim cover mounting screws (1) to 3.5 Nm (31 inch lbs.).
7. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
