Wheel Hub: Service and Repair

FRONT WHEEL HUB/BEARING

Removal Procedure





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
3. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement in Brakes and Traction Control.
4. Remove the wheel drive shaft nut and the washer.
5. Disengage the wheel drive shaft from the wheel hub and bearing.
5.1. Place a brass drift against the outer end of the wheel drive shaft in order to protect the wheel driveshaft threads.
5.2. Sharply strike the brass drift with a hammer. Do not attempt to remove the wheel drive shaft from the hub and bearing at this time.





6. Remove the wheel hub and bearing mounting bolts.





7. Remove the splash shield.
8. Remove the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt from the wheel hub and bearing.
9. Remove the wheel speed sensor from the wheel hub and bearing.





10. Remove the wheel hub and bearing.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the wheel hub and bearing.





2. Install the wheel speed sensor to the wheel hub and bearing.
3. Install the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt to the wheel hub and bearing.
4. Install the splash shield.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





5. Install the wheel hub and bearing mounting bolts.
- Tighten the wheel hub and bearing mounting bolts to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.).





6. Install the wheel drive shaft washer and the nut.
- Tighten the wheel drive shaft nut to 200 Nm (147 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement in Brakes and Traction Control.
8. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
9. Lower the vehicle.
