Courtesy Lamp: Description and Operation

COURTESY LAMPS

The courtesy lamps, include the reading lamps, the footwell lamps, dome and rear view mirror lamps. The courtesy lamps, may be manually turned on or off by placing the interior lamp switch in the ON or OFF position. When the driver places the dome lamp defeat switch in the OFF position, the courtesy lamps will be disabled. If an outside door handle is lifted or a door is opened, the courtesy lamps illuminate. After all the doors have been closed the courtesy lamps will remain illuminated approximately 15 seconds after the last door closes. The courtesy lamps will also turn on prior to any door being opened, and remain illuminated approximately 40 seconds when the driver removes the ignition key.

The CTSY Fuse 3 20A fuse in the IP fuse block, supplies battery positive voltage to the courtesy lamps. When any door is opened, a courtesy lamp request input is received by the illuminated entry module, or with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), the remote control door lock receiver. Ground is then supplied to the courtesy lamp circuit through the module or receiver to G200. For manual operation, the ground is supplied through the headlamp switch to G201. Some of the courtesy lamps may also be used as reading lamps by placing the reading lamp switch in the ON or OFF position which supplies ground to the lamps from the body of the lamp assembly.

When the ignition switch is turned to either the RUN or CRANK position the courtesy lamps will turn off immediately.
