Rear Axle Housing Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Drain the axle lubricant.
3. Remove the rear axle assembly.
4. Remove the brake caliper brackets.
5. Remove the wheel hub.
6. Remove the hub and rotor assembly.
7. Remove the rear axle cover housing and gasket.
8. Remove the brake backing plates.
9. Remove the axle shafts.
10. Remove the differential.
11. Remove the drive pinion.
12. Remove the drive pinion shaft yoke and the seal.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the drive pinion.
2. Install the differential case.
3. Adjust the side bearing preload.
4. Adjust the backlash.
5. Perform a gear tooth contact pattern check.
6. Install the brake backing plates.
7. Install the axle shafts.
8. Install the rear axle housing cover and gasket.
9. Install the brake caliper brackets.
10. Install the wheel hub.
11. Install the hub/rotor assembly.
12. Install the rear axle.
13. Fill the axle with lubricant.
14. Lower the vehicle.
