Park Brake Hardware Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the drum.





2. Release the tension from the index lever by unhooking the spring from the index lever.
3. Remove the transmission yoke bolt from the automatic transmission or nut from the manual transmission.
4. Pull out on the transmission yoke to remove it from the transmission.
5. Remove the support plate bolts and washers.
6. Remove the backing plate, support plate, index lever and spring, and park brake shoe assembly from the vehicle.





7. Separate the support plate and the park brake shoe assembly from the backing plate.
8. Remove the park brake hardware.

Installation Procedure

Important: Prior to installation apply a high temperature silicone lubricant to all of the brake component metal contact points where the brake shoe metal contacts the backing plate, the wheel cylinder and the adjustment strut, etc.





1. Install the park brake hardware.
2. Install the support plate and park brake shoe assembly to the backing plate.
3. Install the index lever and spring assembly between the shoes.





4. Install the backing plate, support plate, index lever and spring, and park brake shoe assembly to the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the support plate washers and bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.).





6. Install the tension arm of the spring to the index lever.
7. Install the transmission yoke to the transmission.
8. Install the transmission yoke bolt to the automatic transmission or nut to the manual transmission.
^ Tighten the bolt to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the nut to 475 Nm (350 ft. lbs.).
9. Install the drum.
10. Adjust the park brake.
11. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
