Limited Slip Differential Assemble

^ Tools Required
J 45709 Limited Slip Differential Overhaul Kit -Dana 248

Important:
^ The clutch discs are replaceable as complete sets only. If one clutch disc pack requires replacement, both packs must be replaced.
^ Before installation of the clutch packs, lubricate the clutches and the clutch plates with axle fluid.





1. Install the lower clutch pack.
2. Install the upper clutch pack.
3. Install the side gears.





4. Install the J 45709-2 (1).
5. Install the J 45709-3 (2).
6. Tighten the J 45709-2 (1) until there is enough clearance to install the pinion gears.





7. Install the J 45709-1 (2). With the pinion gears seated against the side gears, rotate the differential until the pinion gears align with the pinion shaft bore.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

8. Tighten the J 45709-2 (1).
^ Tighten the J 45709-2 (1) to 122 Nm (90 lb ft).





9. Install the thrust washers.
10. Remove the J 45709-2 (1).
11. Remove the J 45709-3 (2).





12. install the pinion shaft.





13. Using a brass drift, install a new roll pin.
