Instrument Panel (IP) - Carrier Replacement



IP Carrier Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable(s). Refer toBattery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer toDisabling the SIR System in SIR.
3. Remove the instrument cluster assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement.
4. Remove the instrument panel lower extension upper trim panel. Refer toIP Extension Trim Plate Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Extension Trim Plate Replacement) .
5. Remove the left hinge pillar trim panel. Refer to Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar (Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar) in Interior Trim.
6. Remove the right hinge pillar trim panel. Refer to Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar (Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar) in Interior Trim.
7. Remove the instrument panel driver knee bolster deflector assembly and the driver knee bolster inner and outer brackets. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Left (Knee Bolster Replacement - Left) .
8. Remove the instrument panel passenger knee bolster inner and outer brackets. Refer to Bracket Replacement - Knee Bolster (Service and Repair) .
9. Remove the passenger side SIR Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
10. Remove the instrument panel upper trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper (Service and Repair) .
11. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Engine Cover Replacement) in Interior Trim.
12. Remove the radio and mounting bracket, if equipped. Refer toRadio Replacement in Entertainment.
13. Remove the instrument panel compartments, if equipped. Refer to Compartment Replacement - IP (Service and Repair) .
14. Remove the heater and the A/C control. Refer to HVAC Control Assembly Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
15. Remove the push-in fasteners that retain the radio, the heater, and the A/C wiring harnesses to the instrument panel carrier.
16. Remove the steering column wiring harness from the instrument panel carrier.
17. Remove the nuts that retain the steering column to the instrument panel carrier. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
18. Remove the instrument cluster wiring harness from the instrument panel carrier.




19. Remove the bolts that retain the instrument panel carrier to the vehicle.
20. Carefully rotate the instrument panel carrier out and downward in order to gain access to other components.
Do not remove the heater and A/C vacuum harness retainers from the air ducts.
21. Disconnect the heater and A/C vacuum harness connector at the lower right of the cowl area.




22. Remove the bolts that retain the air ducts to the instrument panel carrier.
23. Remove the air ducts from the instrument panel carrier.
24. Remove the wiring harness retainers from the instrument panel carrier.




25. Remove the instrument panel carrier from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure





1. Install the instrument panel carrier to the vehicle.
2. Install the wiring harness retainers to the instrument panel carrier.




3. Install the air ducts to the instrument panel carrier.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

4. Install the bolts that retain the air ducts to the instrument panel carrier.

Tighten the bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

5. Connect the heater and A/C vacuum harness connector at the lower right of the cowl area.
6. Carefully rotate the instrument panel carrier in and upward in order to install additional components.




7. Install the bolts that retain the instrument panel carrier to the vehicle.

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

8. Install the instrument cluster wiring harness to the instrument panel carrier.
9. Install the nuts that retain the steering column to the instrument panel carrier. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
10. Install the steering column wiring harness to the instrument panel carrier.
11. Install the push-in fasteners that retain the radio, the heater, and the A/C wiring harnesses to the instrument panel carrier.
12. Install the heater and the A/C control. Refer to HVAC Control Assembly Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
13. Install the instrument panel compartments, if equipped. Refer to Compartment Replacement - IP (Service and Repair) .
14. Install the mounting bracket and radio , if equipped. Refer toRadio Replacement in Entertainment.
15. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Engine Cover Replacement) in Interior Trim.
16. Install the instrument panel upper trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper (Service and Repair) .
17. Install the passenger side SIR Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
18. Install the instrument panel passenger knee bolster inner and outer brackets. Refer to Bracket Replacement - Knee Bolster (Service and Repair) .
19. Install the instrument panel driver knee bolster deflector assembly and the driver knee bolster inner and outer brackets. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Left (Knee Bolster Replacement - Left) .
20. Install the right hinge pillar trim panel. Refer to Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar (Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar) in Interior Trim.
21. Install the left hinge pillar trim panel. Refer to Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar (Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar) in Interior Trim.
22. Install the instrument panel lower extension upper trim panel. Refer toIP Extension Trim Plate Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Extension Trim Plate Replacement) .
23. Install the instrument cluster assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement.
24. Enable the SIR system. Refer toEnabling the SIR System in SIR.
25. Connect the battery negative cable(s). Refer toBattery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
