Gasoline Auxiliary Generator Will Not Run When Vehicle is Off (Replace Fuel Sending Unit With Non-RFCV Fuel Sending Unit)
Models:
2002 Chevrolet Express Van
2002 GMC Savana Van
with RPOs K50 (Fuel Fitting, Line Take Off) and/or 7T6 (Fuel Fitting, Line Take Off)

Condition
Some customers may comment that the vehicle's auxiliary gasoline generator will not run when the vehicle is not running.
Cause
Vehicles built with reverse flow check valve (RFCV) fuel sending units will not allow fuel through the sending unit check valve into the auxiliary generator with the vehicle shut off.
Correction
Replace the vehicle's fuel sending unit with a non-RFCV fuel sending unit following the service procedure below.
Caution:
^ Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.
^ Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
Replace the fuel pump sending unit. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement (SI Document ID # 693842).
