Subject:
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Inoperative With Blower Motor Speed Set On High (Replace Blower Motor)
Models:
2002 Chevrolet Express Van
2002 GMC Savana Van
Condition
Some customers may comment that the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system will not function. This will become a concern for those customers who start the vehicle and turn the blower motor on HIGH setting to allow it to cool or warm and let the vehicle sit in the driveway with the doors locked. The customer then tries to enter the vehicle using the key fob and find they are unable to unlock the doors.
Cause
The cause of this condition has been determined to be "noise" from the blower motor. When the blower is in any position other than HIGH, the RKE should function normally.
Correction
Replace the blower motor. Refer to the Blower Motor Replacement procedure in the HVAC sub-section of the Service Manual (SI Document ID # 660187). Verify proper RKE operation with the new blower motor operating on HIGH before returning the vehicle to the customer.
