- J 36857 Engine Lift Bracket
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the hood from the vehicle.
3. Remove the engine cover from the vehicle.
4. Drain the cooling system.
5. Remove the front bumper from the vehicle.
6. Remove the grille from the vehicle.
7. Remove the auxiliary engine oil cooler from the vehicle (if needed).
8. Remove the transmission oil cooler (if equipped).
9. Remove the radiator from the vehicle.
10. Evacuate the air conditioning system.
11. Remove the A/C condenser lines from the condenser.
12. Remove the radiator support bolts (3) from the radiator support (1).
13. Disconnect the forward lamp harness electrical connector.
14. Remove the ground strap bolts from the right and left fenders.
15. Remove the radiator support (1) with the A/C condenser.
16. Remove the engine lift bracket from the engine assembly.
17. Remove generator mounting bracket from the engine assembly.
18. Remove the engine wiring harness from the left side of the engine assembly.
19. Remove the engine wiring harness from the right side of the engine assembly.
20. Remove the turbocharger assembly from the engine block.
21. Remove the exhaust manifolds from the cylinder heads.
22. Remove the lower intake manifold from the engine block.
23. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
24. Remove the starter motor.
25. Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the retainers on the engine oil pan and secure to the side.
26. Remove the engine oil cooler lines from the engine and secure to the side.
27. Remove the bolts securing the converter cover to the transmission.
28. Mark the flywheel and the torque converter alignment.
29. Remove the bolts that attach the torque converter to the engine flywheel.
30. Remove the studs and the bolts securing the transmission to the engine.
31. Remove the ground strap and negative battery cable from the engine.
32. Remove the electrical connector from the block heater.
33. Remove the engine oil filter.
34. Lower the vehicle.
35. Install the J 36857 and a length of chain, using GM P/N 23503910 or equivalent attaching bolt to the right cylinder head rear corner and left cylinder head front corner.
36. Support the transmission.
37. Attach a suitable lifting device to the chain.
38. Remove the engine mount through-bolt from the left engine mount.
39. Remove the right mount through-bolt from the right engine mount.
40. Remove the left engine mount from the frame.
41. Remove the right engine mount from the frame.
42. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
43. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft before Installing the engine assembly to the engine stand.
44. Install the engine assembly on a suitable engine stand.
45. Remove the lifting device from the engine assembly.
46. Remove the lifting brackets from the engine assembly.
47. Remove the engine mount brackets from the engine block.
48. Remove the right engine mount bracket from the engine block.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
1. Install the engine mount bracket to the engine block.
^ Tighten the engine mount bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
2. Install the right engine mount bracket to the engine block.
^ Tighten the engine mount bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the J36857 and a length of chain, using GM P/N 23503910 or equivalent attaching bolt, to the rear of the right cylinder head and the front of the left cylinder head.
4. Remove the engine assembly from the engine stand.
5. Install the flywheel on the crankshaft.
^ Tighten the flywheel bolts to 90 Nm (65 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the left engine mount to the frame.
^ Tighten the engine mount bolts to 59 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the right engine mount to the frame.
^ Tighten the engine mount bolts to 53 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the engine assembly in the vehicle.
9. Lower the engine assembly on to the engine mount brackets.
10. Install the engine mount through-bolt for the left side.
^ Tighten the through-bolt to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.).
11. Install the engine mount through-bolt for the right side.
^ Tighten the through-bolt to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.).
12. Remove the lifting device from the engine assembly.
13. Raise the vehicle.
Important: The torque converter must be flush onto the flywheel and rotate freely by hand.
14. Install the bolts that secure the transmission to the engine.
^ Tighten the studs and the bolts to 47 Nm (34 ft. lbs.).
15. Install the bolts securing the torque converter to the engine flywheel.
15.1. First tighten all the bolts finger tight in order to insure proper converter seating.
15.2. Tighten the bolts to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).
16. Install the converter cover to the transmission.
^ Tighten bolts to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
17. Install the starter assembly to the engine block.
18. Install the electrical connection for the block heater.
19. Install the ground straps from the frame to the engine block.
20. Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the retainer.
21. Install the engine oil cooler lines to the engine block.
22. Lower the vehicle.
23. Install the lower intake manifold to the engine block.
24. Install the exhaust manifolds to the cylinder heads.
25. Install the turbocharger on the engine block.
26. Install the engine lift bracket.
27. Install the generator mounting bracket to the engine block.
28. Install the wiring harness to the left side of the engine assembly.
29. Install the wiring harness to the right side of the engine assembly.
30. Install the radiator hoses to the engine assembly.
31. Install the radiator support (1) with A/C condenser to the vehicle.
32. Install the ground strap bolts to the right and left fenders.
33. Connect the forward lamp harness electrical connector.
34. Connect the A/C condenser lines to the A/C condenser.
35. Install radiator in the vehicle.
36. Install the transmission oil cooler (if equipped).
37. Install the auxiliary engine oil cooler.
38. Install the grille on the vehicle.
39. Install the front bumper on the vehicle.
40. Refill the cooling system.
41. Install the battery in the vehicle.
42. Recharge the A/C system.
43. Install the hood assembly on the vehicle.
44. Fill the engine crankcase with the proper type and quantity of engine oil.
45. Install a scan tool and make the required adjustments.
46. Perform the TDC offset adjustment procedure.
47. Install the engine cover in the vehicle.
