Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the Oil level indicator.
2. Remove the upper Oil level indicator tube bolt.
3. Remove the upper Oil level indicator tube.





4. Remove the transmission fluid indicator.
5. Remove the Oil fill tube bolt.
6. Remove the upper transmission fluid indicator tube.
7. Remove the engine cover.





8. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
^ Ignition Coil harness (2)
^ Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor (3)





9. Remove the ECT sensor bracket bolt.
10. Reposition the ECT sensor bracket.
11. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the rear of the intake manifold.





Important: Twist the spark plug boot one-half turn in order to release the boot. Pull on the spark plug boot only. Do not pull on the spark plug wire or the wire could be damaged.

12. Remove the spark plug wires from the ignition Coils.





13. Remove the ignition Coil wiring harness bolts. (left side shown, right side similar).





14. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
15. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.

Important: Valve rocker arm cover gaskets are reusable. Replace the valve rocker arm cover gasket only if damaged.

16. Inspect the valve rocker arm cover gasket for cuts or damage.

Installation Procedure





1. Install a new valve rocker arm cover gasket if the gasket was removed form the rocker arm cover.
2. Install the valve rocker arm cover.
3. Install the valve rocker arm cover bolts.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolt in sequence using two passes.
4.1. Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.) a first pass.
4.2. Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.) a final pass.





5. Install the ignition Coil wiring harness bolts. (left side shown, right side similar).
^ Tighten the ignition Coil wiring harness bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).





Important: Fully Install the spark plug wires by pushing on the exposed end of the spark plug boot. Do not push the spark plug wire on the spark plug by using the metal heat shield.

6. Install the spark plug wires to the ignition coils.





7. Connect the vacuum hose to the rear of the intake manifold.
8. Position the ECT sensor bracket into place.
9. Install the ECT sensor bracket bolt.
^ Tighten the ECT sensor bracket bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).





10. Connect the following electrical connectors:
^ Ignition Coil harness (2)
^ ECT sensor (3)
11. Install the engine cover.





12. Apply sealant GM U.S. P/N 12346004, Canada P/N 10953480, or equivalent to the upper transmission fluid indictor tube.
13. Install the upper transmission fluid indicator tube.
14. Install the upper transmission fluid fill tube bracket bolt.
^ Tighten the Oil fill tube bracket bolt to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
15. Install the transmission fluid indicator.





16. Apply sealant GM U.S. P/N 12346004, Canada P/N 10953480, or equivalent to the upper Oil level indicator tube.
17. Install the upper Oil level indicator tube.
18. Install the upper Oil level indicator tube bracket bolt.
^ Tighten the upper oil level indicator tube bracket bolt to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
19. Install the oil level indicator.
20. Install the air cleaner duct (3).





21. Position and tighten the clamps (2) at the throttle body (1) and air cleaner.
^ Tighten the air cleaner duct clamps to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).
