Removal Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove the rear axle housing cover.
4. Remove the axle shaft.
5. Remove the axle shaft seal and the bearing from the axle housing using the J23689 (1) and the J2619-01(2) (8.6 inch axle).
6. Remove the axle shaft seal and the bearing from the axle housing using the J29712 (9.5 inch axle).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the axle shaft bearing using the J23690 (8.6 inch axle) (1) or the J29709 (9.5 inch axle) (1) and the J8092 (2).
Drive the axle shaft bearing into the axle housing until the tool bottoms against the tube.
2. Install the axle shaft seal using the J21128 (8.6 inch axle) or the J29713 (9.5 inch axle).
Drive the tool into the bore until the axle shaft seal bottoms flush with the tube.
3. Install the axle shaft.
4. Install the rear axle housing cover.
5. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
6. Fill the rear axle. Use the proper fluid.
7. Lower the vehicle.
