Front Wheel Alignment
Front Caster and Camber AdjustmentThe caster and camber adjustments are made by rotating the offset cam bolt and the cam in the slotted frame bracket in order to reposition the control arm.
Important: Before adjusting the caster and camber angles, jounce the front bumper three times to allow the vehicle to return to normal height.
Measure and adjust the caster and the camber with the vehicle at curb height. The front suspension Z dimension and the rear suspension D dimension are indicated in Trim Heights.
1. For an accurate reading, do not push or pull on the tires during the alignment process.
2. Determine the caster (2,3) angle.
3. Determine the camber (2,3) angle.
4. If the caster and the camber angles are not within specifications, remove the frame bracket knockouts.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
5. Adjust the caster and the camber angle by turning the cam bolts until the specifications have been met.
When the adjustments are complete, hold the cam bolt head in order to ensure the cam bolt position does not change while tightening the nut.
Tighten the cam nuts to 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.).
6. Verify that the caster and the camber are still within specifications.
If the caster and camber are within specifications, Refer to Front Toe Adjustment.
Front Toe Adjustment
The toe-in can be increased or decreased by changing the length of the tie rod ends. A threaded sleeve is provided for this purpose. When the tie-rods are mounted ahead of the steering knuckle, the tie-rods must be modified as follows:
^ Increased in length in order to decrease the toe-in.
^ Decreased in length in order to increase the toe-in.
Important: When setting the toe, the left and right sides are set separately.
^ Before adjusting the toe, jounce the bumper three times to allow the vehicle to return to the normal height.
^ Adjust the toe with the vehicle at curb height. The front suspension Z dimension and the rear D dimension are indicated in Trim Heights.
^ For an accurate toe reading do not push or pull on the tires during the alignment process.
1. Determine the toe-in (3) from the alignment equipment.
2. With the steering wheel in the straight and the locked position, loosen the inner to outer tie rod sleeves.
3. Adjust the toe by turning the tie rod adjuster sleeve (1) in order to achieve the proper toe specification.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Important: Check the relationship of the adjuster tube to the clamp. The adjuster tube slot (1) and the clamp opening (2) must not be in the same position.
4. Verify that the toe adjustment is within specifications. Tighten the tie rod adjuster sleeves.
Tighten the tie rod adjuster sleeves to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
