23. C4 Clutch Removal
C4 Clutch RemovalTools Required
^ J24204-2 Bar and Stud Assembly
^ J44530 C3/C4 Piston Spring Compressor
Notice: DO NOT install special tools, J tools, onto the gear thrust plate rivets of the C3 clutch backplate assembly. The special tools could damage the gear thrust plate rivets.
1. Install J24204-2 (1) and J44530 (2) into the main housing. Make sure that J24204-2 does not touch gear thrust plate rivets (6) on the C3 clutch backplate assembly.
2. Compress piston return spring assemblies (5) until a gap is visible below retaining rings (3 and 4).
3. Remove retaining ring (3). Remove spiral retaining ring (4).
4. Remove J24204-2 (1) and J44530 (2) from the main housing.
5. Remove C4 clutch backplate (1).
6. Remove five C4 clutch friction plates (1) and four C4 clutch reaction plates (2).
7. Remove, as a unit, C4 spring plate (4) and three piston return spring assemblies (3).
Important: The piston return spring assemblies snap off.
8. Remove three piston return spring assemblies (1) from C4 spring plate (2).
9. Remove P1 ring gear (1).
