Starter Motor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. If equipped with 4-wheel drive (4WD), remove the right front tire and wheel.
4. If equipped with 4WD, remove the right fender wheelhouse inner panel (1).
5. Remove the battery positive cable from the starter motor.
6. Remove the solenoid wires.
7. Remove the starter motor bolts.
8. Remove the starter motor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the starter motor to the engine rear cover.
2. Install the starter motor bolts.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 78 N.m (58 lb ft).
3. Install the solenoid wires.
4. Install the starter solenoid nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 3.4 N.m (30 lb in).
5. Install the battery positive cable to the solenoid stud.
6. Install the starter lead nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
7. If equipped with 4WD, install the right fender wheelhouse inner panel (1).
8. If equipped with 4WD, install the right front tire and wheel.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
