115. Park/Neutral Position Switch Installation
Park/Neutral Position Switch InstallationInstalling A Re-Used PNP Switch
Tools Required
^ J41364-A Park/Neutral Switch Aligner
1. Make sure the selector shaft is in the N (Neutral) position as follows:
^ Place a wrench on the selector shaft flats and rotate the shaft to its furthest clockwise position.
^ Rotate the selector shaft counterclockwise 2 detents.
2. Be sure that the J41364-A (2) is in the proper position on the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch (1).
3. Align the PNP switch (1) with the main housing so that the J41364-A is facing outward.
4. While maintaining the correct PNP switch-to-selector-shaft alignment, slide the PNP switch (1) over the selector shaft (2).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
5. While holding J41364-A in engagement with the PNP switch, install 2 bolts (3) so that the PNP switch may be rotated with some effort.
Tighten the 2 bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
6. Remove J41364-A.
7. Install the splash shield (1), concave side toward the PNP switch (3), over the selector shaft (2).
Notice:
^ DO NOT drive the selector lever onto the selector shaft.
^ DO NOT use an impact wrench in order to tighten the selector lever nut. Hold the lever with a wrench while tightening the nut.
^ Failure to follow these instructions may result in transmission damage.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
8. Reinstall the shift lever (2). Install the nut (3), by hand, on the end of selector shaft (4). Use a wrench (1) to keep the shift lever from rotating.
Tighten the nut to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
9. Reconnect the shift selector linkage/cable to the shift lever (2).
10. Connect the external wiring harness to the PNP switch.
Installing A New PNP Switch
1. Make sure the selector shaft is in the N (Neutral) position as follows:
^ Place a wrench on the selector shaft flats and rotate the shaft to its furthest clockwise position.
^ Rotate the selector shaft counterclockwise 2 detents.
2. While maintaining the correct PNP switch-to-selector-shaft alignment, slide the new PNP switch over the selector shaft.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the 2 bolts (6) retaining the PNP switch to the transmission.
Tighten two bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
Notice:
^ DO NOT drive the selector lever onto the selector shaft.
^ DO NOT use an impact wrench in order to tighten the selector lever nut. Hold the lever with a wrench while tightening the nut.
^ Failure to follow these instructions may result in transmission damage.
4. Reinstall the shift lever (2). Install the nut (3), by hand, on the end of the selector shaft (4). Use a wrench (1) to keep the shift lever from rotating.
Tighten nut to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
5. Reconnect the shift selector linkage/cable try the shift lever (2).
6. Connect the external wiring harness to the PNP switch.
