Transmission Fluid Leak Out of Vent (Replace Transmission Fluid Level Indicator)

Models:
2001-2004 Chevrolet Silverado
2001-2004 GMC Sierra
with Allison(R) Series 1000 Automatic Transmission (RPO M74)

Condition

Some customers may comment that the transmission fluid leaks out of the vent when the truck is started after a cold soak.

Temperatures when this occurs will usually be near -18°C (0°F) or below. This condition may be worse if the truck idles for several minutes before being driven.

Cause





Inadequate transmission venting at cold temperatures may cause this condition. The above graphic is a non-vented indicator (dipstick).

Correction





Replace the transmission fluid indicator (dipstick) with a new vented indicator, P/N 15115171.
