Rear Housing Disassemble

^ Tools Required
- J 23907 Slide Hammer
- J 26941 Bearing/Bushing Remover





1. If RWD vehicle, using J26941 and J23907, remove the slip yoke seal.





2. If 4WD vehicle remove the bolts and the main shaft rear bearing retainer from the rear case.





3. If 4WD vehicle, use a brass drift to remove the main shaft rear bearing from the rear case.





4. Remove the shift shaft bushing retaining ring.





Important: The shift shaft rear bearing in the rear case is not serviceable.

5. Using the J 23907, remove the rear case shift shaft bushing. The shift shaft bushing may come out without having to use the J 23907.





6. Inspect the countershaft rear bearing race.
7. If the bearing is faulty, use a suitable blind hole puller and a slide hammer to remove the bearing race.
