Brakes - Service Stability Message/DTC C0550 Set

Subject:
Service Stability Message Displayed, DTC C0550 Set (No Fix at This Time, Fix Under Development)

Models:
2003 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT
2003 Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe
2003 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL

Condition

Some customers may comment that while driving down hill and making a turn, the Service Stability message will display in the Driver Information Center (DIC). This will occur prior to ABS activation and once stopped, the message will go off.

Upon investigation the technician may find DTC C0550 stored in history.

Cause

The cause of this condition may be that the "Long Accel Gain" parameters in the EBTCM are sensitive to certain driving conditions.

Correction

The correction to the underlying cause has not been established at this time. The repair will be to reprogram the EBTCM when the software is available.

Important:
Disregard Dealer Administrative Message sent out February 20, 2003 addressing this condition. Contrary to information provided, calibration is not yet available. An updated message will be sent out when software is available.

Dealer Action

^ Record the customer information on a permanent record so you may call the customer when a repair becomes available.

^ Please reassure the customer that this condition will not cause any damage to the vehicle and is acceptable to drive.

^ Advise the customer that a repair is in test and validation and is due out soon. At the time the bulletin becomes available, it will be the dealer's responsibility to contact the customer.
